A message from the Editor, Jan Lundy

We hope you’re here because you are ready to live your Buddha Chick life—or at least you're curious how to do that. And what does that mean exactly, to live a Buddha Chick Life? It means that no matter what is happening in your life you want to live with as much inner calm, clarity and wisdom as you can muster. It also means that you believe these “values” may be the essence of who you are. You are peace, you are love, you are joy—when you remember. Ah, spiritual amnesia. It can hit hard sometimes, yes?

This magazine and online community will help you remember who you are in your essence and how you are meant to live. The articles, resources, and kindred spirits you'll find here will help you stay plugged into your truest self; to live with greater ease every day of your life. Even when life is difficult. Especially when life is difficult!

Did you know that most women come to a place of spiritual awakening when a life crisis hits? And did you also know that most often this crisis is a health challenge? It’s true, 1 out of every 2 women today (U.S. statistics) are living with a chronic health issue. I am. Are you?

In fact, my own loss of health many years ago was a “cosmic 2 x 4,” hitting me over the head with a big enough wallop that I “woke up” to how I was living. Enter Super Woman. Or should I say, time for her to make an exit! The rest is a typical “her story” of someone who discovers that illness is inviting her to live in a whole new way; to spiritual awakening; to healing; to sharing what she’s learned with others who are struggling. Sound familiar?

That is who and what you will find here at Buddha Chick Life: Women who are awake and aware, passionate about sharing what works for them to live in the best way possible. Their words will lead you into radical self-compassion, “khanti”—patient endurance, and grace. The resources provided here will support you on your unique life path. We’re an interspiritual gathering of women dedicated to living with compassion, mindfulness, and kindness toward ourselves and all beings.

In Issue 1, you will meet our Guest Mentor for July, Toni Bernhard, a woman who knows firsthand how to meet a devastating life challenge head-on with determination and self-compassion. I interviewed Toni and we recorded two extraordinary podcasts for you. There are articles on mindful meditation, overcoming self-doubt, befriending yourself, and healing with gratitude. There’s a guided meditation to calm and center you, as well as poetry and photography to delight your senses. And for those of you who love prizes and giveaways, we've got one of those too—a powerful new book on healing by cancer survivor, Leigh Fortsan.

There’s something for everyone at Buddha Chick Life and we hope you will join in the conversation. Scroll down to read Issue 1 article by article. Or click the “Blog” tag above to read the articles at once. Sign-up by RSS feed or receive the links in your Inbox by subscribing below. Share news of our magazine and community with your friends so they can breathe easier too.

No matter what path you take, we hope you’ll “go slowly, breathe and smile” as Thich Nhat Hanh would say. It’s the perfect way to live, don’t you agree?

With metta—loving-kindness,

Jan Lundy, Editor
