What is Sahaja Yoga Meditation
Sahaja Yoga is a meditation technique developed by Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi. Sahaja means "born with you" and Yoga means "union with the divine". Sahaja Yoga involves the awakening of a subtle spiritual energy called the Kundalini which lies dormant at the base of the spine in the sacrum bone. The gentle and spontaneous awakening of this Kundalini energy is known as Self Realization. Sahaja Yoga is an inner revolution that brings about the transformation of human beings into spiritual beings who gradually manifest sublime qualities of compassion, love and generosity and who live in a progressively profound state of bliss and inner peace. It is a living process and a gradual transformation of our awareness. Sahaja Yoga is a spiritual movement of global proportions and is practiced by people from all age groups and social backgrounds who are all united by their experience of the same inner peace and joy.
What is Meditation ?
Meditation is a state of our awareness in which we are not thinking. To get into this state we must let go of our thoughts and enter into a state of thoughtless awareness where we think neither of the past nor the future but are entirely in the present moment. We begin to enjoy our Self, our Spirit - we start to enjoy being.

Who Is Shri Mataji?
Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi is the founder of Sahaja Yoga, which she established in 1970. Since then she has given thousands of lectures, and has taught millions how to practice the technique.
Shri Mataji was born at noon on the Spring Equinox, March 21, 1923 to Christian parents. As a child Shri Mataji along with her parents had lived in the ashram of Mahatma Gandhi who affectionately gave her the nickname "Nepali". Shri Mataji played a courageous role as youth leader in Gandhi’s Free India movement and was imprisoned and tortured for her participation in this movement.
Shortly before India's independence she married Sir C.P. Srivastava, one of India's most respected high-ranking civil servants. Mr. Srivastava was knighted by the Queen of England in 1989 and received similar honors from many countries for his service.
After fulfilling her familial duties of bringing up two daughters, Shri Mataji embarked on her spiritual mission. Shri Mataji began with a small handful of people in India and very soon thousands of ordinary people in many countries were getting the blissful experience of Kundalini awakening (Self Realization) and discovering for themselves that by using Shri Mataji's techniques, they could also pass this experience on to others. Unlike the many so-called "gurus" of the modern era, Shri Mataji has never charged for her lectures or for giving Self Realization. She has always insisted that you cannot pay for your enlightenment. She has warned of the dangers of going to the many false, self proclaimed "gurus" and cults who are only interested in making money and are not capable of giving Self Realization.
